Shopify Dispatch Issue #457 - Shopify Editions Summer 2024, Standard product taxonomy

Shopify Editions Summer 2024

While I didn't see a single article about their Summer 2024 editions, it seems Shopify's released the landing page for it. It's full of things they've previously released, just released, and are going to (I really wish they make this clearer).

Many things are getting refinements and tweaks. Regular run-of-the-mill stuff for software companies, but still needed and valuable in context.

Introducing Shopify’s Standard Product Taxonomy

The big and most impactful release I saw is Shopify's Standard Product Taxonomy. This means products are categorized automatically and can also automatically get some default product options based on the category (e.g. clothing could include color and size).

It'll be a time-saver and can help customers find products easier in the storefront.
