A lot of Shopify stores use sliders on their homepage in order to have more space for offers.
Many conversion and accessibility folks hate sliders, with good reason.
But they are still popular and you might like them for the aesthetics.
If you do decide to use a slider, there are things you can add to make it more usable.
- make sure it can be paused, both by a clickable button and by a mouse hover
- keep each slide visible on the page for long enough for it to be read and viewed
- give a way to navigate back to a previous slide
These are basic tips but a surprising number of sliders don't follow them and turn your homepage into a poorly animated slideshow.
If you can't get your slider to work well, consider replacing it with a similar hero image. It'll have the same aesthetic but will load faster and be less frustrating than a poorly executed slider.
Some sliders also don't work well with SEO and when it comes to SEO, you can use all the help you can get.
