Debra, a JSON-LD for SEO customer, recently asked me about SEO books.
I'd love to know what book to buy to get started in SEO.
There is tons of trash out there on amazon, and I'd like to just pick a book that explained the jargon, and have an expert like you actually recommend it so I'm not flying alone.
I haven't been impressed with any of the more general SEO books I've read. There was one highly-rating one that was Shopify-specific but it wasn't good. Parts were okay, parts were misinformation, and I felt like it missed a lot of fundamental things.
That's part of the reason why Kai and I created the Shopify SEO: Simplified audio course. We wanted to cover the few things that actually matter now and that will matter over the long-term (vs just what works this month).
A lot of SEO these days is about having and creating good content that gets linked to and shared. SEO has always been like this but there's more focus on this now.
A good book on marketing writing or content marketing would be more useful than an entry-level SEO book.
Though her products aren't on Amazon, I absolutely love Naomi's products, especially around marketing. She has a few about content marketing that could be useful, BUT start reading around her blog first. She has a particular style that you'll either love or hate.
(I've followed and listened to Naomi's advice since at least 2008. I have almost every product she's built including a great SEO book that is sadly off-the-market now.)
One simple improvement you can make is to get your structured data in order.
Google has been working on Rich Snippets so I bet there's going to be more search enhancements coming out in 2018 for stores with structured data.
And JSON-LD for SEO is the easiest and safest option in the Shopify app store to automatically add that data.
Already trusted by over two thousand stores, it's among the top SEO apps overall.
